01 · Why OliDrop
We forgot to swap photos.
OliDrop started with a week of grandparents on babysitting duty.
My in-laws came to stay with us during a week when our son's daycare was closed. They spent most of the visit looking after him, and took plenty of photos while they did.
I'm an avid photographer, and I like to keep the originals at full quality. When we're together we AirDrop them to each other. This time we forgot to swap pictures before they went home, and AirDrop only works when you're close by.
So I built OliDrop: the same original photos and videos, sent after everyone's gone home.

02 · How it works
One room for each group you send to.
A room is a small private group: the grandparents, the cousins, the friends from the trip. Make it once and keep sending to it.

Make a room
Give it a name everyone will recognise. OliDrop gives it an 8-character code.

Invite them
Show the QR code on your screen, or send the invite link. On an iPhone with OliDrop, the link opens straight into the room.

Choose photos and videos. Each one is saved into everyone else's Photos library at full quality.
03 · Direct and relay
Two points, one path.
When you both have OliDrop open, files go straight from your phone to theirs. When they're offline, the relay can hold the files until they're back.

FreePhone to phone over an encrypted connection. Direct transfers are never stored on our servers, and they're always free.
Relay
UpgradeFor anyone who's offline. Your phone uploads the file once. It waits on our servers until they open OliDrop, then it's saved to their Photos and deleted from ours. Anything undelivered is deleted after 72 hours, or sooner if you choose.
Turn on end-to-end encryption for relayed files and we can't see what's in them.

04 · Privacy
No email. No password. No phone number.
OliDrop makes you an anonymous account the first time you open it. It lives in your iCloud Keychain, so your iPad and your next iPhone pick it up by themselves.
- Your library
- You choose what to send with Apple's photo picker. To save what you receive, OliDrop asks only to add to Photos, never to read it.
- Direct transfers
- Go from one device to the other and are never stored on our servers. If two phones can't connect directly, the encrypted traffic may pass through Cloudflare's network, which can't read it.
- Relayed files
- Kept only until everyone they were sent to has them, or until they expire. Encrypt them end to end and we can't see what's inside.
- Ads
- The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, personalised only if you allow tracking. OliDrop itself doesn't track you, and we don't sell your data.

06 · Questions
The small print, in plain words.
What OliDrop does, what it doesn't, and what it needs from you.
Does everyone need the app?
Yes. Everyone in a room needs OliDrop on an iPhone or iPad. If someone opens an invite link before installing it, they get a page with the room code to use once they have the app.
Is there an Android version?
No. OliDrop is for iPhone and iPad, running iOS or iPadOS 27 or later.
Do photos and videos lose quality?
No. OliDrop sends the original file in its original format and saves it to Photos as it is. A 4K video arrives as a 4K video.
Does OliDrop need to stay open?
For now, yes. Keep OliDrop open on both phones while files are sending. If the other person is offline, the relay upgrade holds the files until they next open the app.
How big can a file be?
Through the relay, up to 4 GB per file. Direct transfers don't touch our servers, so there's no server limit, only the space on their phone.
I have an iPhone and an iPad. Do I need two accounts?
No. With iCloud Keychain turned on, your devices share one OliDrop account, with the same rooms and the same purchases.
Who can join my room?
Anyone with its code or invite link, so share it only with the people you want in it. Codes are 8 characters long and join attempts are rate-limited, so they can't be guessed quickly.
How do I delete my account?
In OliDrop, Settings › Advanced › Reset Identity removes it from your devices. To have it deleted from our servers as well, follow the steps in the privacy policy.
